Netflix users, hold onto your seats – subscription prices are on the upswing again this year! Analysts at UBS Securities predict a hike in prices for Netflix streaming plans in 2024, marking another chapter in the ongoing saga of the platform’s evolving pricing strategies.

According to the analysts, this move spells good news for Netflix’s financials, with expected revenue and earnings growth picking up speed. The anticipated price increase, coupled with a surge in revenue from its ad-supported tier and a steady influx of new subscribers, could see Netflix’s total revenue grow by a whopping 15% in 2024, a significant jump from the 7% growth witnessed in the previous year.

Last October, Netflix teased users with a taste of what’s to come by bumping up the price of its Basic plan in the U.S. and other regions. While the streaming giant hasn’t dropped any specific hints about 2024 price hikes, executives have hinted at the possibility, suggesting that rate increases are indeed on the table.

During Netflix’s Q4 2023 earnings call, co-CEO Greg Peters hinted at a return to business as usual regarding pricing strategies. He emphasized the importance of continually adding value for subscribers and hinted that customers might need to “pay a bit more” to keep the content flywheel spinning.

The bullish outlook from UBS analysts has prompted them to raise their price target on Netflix shares, reflecting confidence in the streaming giant’s future prospects. Netflix’s dominance in the streaming space, highlighted by its growing share of U.S. TV viewing, positions it favorably to wield its pricing power compared to competitors like Hulu, Peacock, and Disney+.

As traditional media companies pivot towards streaming and focus on profitability, Netflix stands out as the ultimate winner in this industry evolution. With projections of continued subscriber growth and improved operating margins, Netflix’s upward trajectory seems unstoppable.

So, while the prospect of higher subscription fees might sting a bit, Netflix users can take solace in the promise of more great content to come. After all, every binge-worthy show or movie is a testament to the value of their subscription – and a reminder that sometimes, you get what you pay for, and then some.
